Music Video Final

This is my final music video for my A2 coursework. This is the final version with all the changes made that I wanted to make in the drafting stages. This included the colour correction, slowing some of the clips down and changing some of the clips.

Digipak

Below is my Digipak which I have created for my artist. The Digipak is made up of a front page, two pages inside and a back page which includes the track details and the production details. I kept the front cover looking simple with the image of the artist and the title of the album making it easy to the audience to see what it is. I believe the simple front cover of the album with an image and the name of the album is able to quickly draw people in. it is appealing to the audience and would attract them to buy the album. Inside you can see a note from the artist making it look personal to the reader once again making them likely to buy the album. On the back of the Digipak I have displayed the track names next to the image of Beth where it looks like she is looking up at the track names. This once again would draw in the attention of viewers and would make them interested in the album.

I used studio photography to convey my artist and kept the images looking similar to stick to the house style and clearly link to the advert and the music video. My model is wearing a white sparkly dress which is featured in the music video, and includes both hair styles which are up and down. I believe that the white dress against the black background works well and makes the artist stand out being the main focus to the readers. In addition to this I kept the fonts linking to the colour scheme where I used white fonts and the main title a silver colour. This keeps it looking professional and too a firm house style.

Promotional Methods for Advert

I have considered two possible promotion methods for the album advert. The first is to present the advert on a bus stop and the other on a popular road where many people would walk. I have considered using both of these as they would both be effective ways of promoting the new album. Both of these locations would draw lots of attention to the advert and I believe that they are also suitable locations as many teenagers who the album is targeted to would be daily.

Album Advert

This is my final magazine ad which I completed today. I have decided to have the advert portrait as it looks a lot more professional and realistic compared to other magazine album adverts. I wanted to keep all three of my products looking similar through sticking to a house style throughout. to do this I wanted my artist in the same outfit in both the advert and Digipak, and wanted the colours to be exactly the same. The ratings are at the top of the page and are both 5 stars highlighting to the audience how good the album is. All of the text on the page sticks to white and grey colours which stand out well against the background colour. I decided to use this colour as it works well with the black background but also keeps to a house style through the colour of the dress.
I decided to use this image where she is giving direct eye contact to the audience as she looks like a real down to Earth artist, and the audience would not take her too seriously. In addition to this I believe that the image clearly highlights the genre of pop through the girly makeup and hair. I also like the positioning of the silvery grey text on top of the white dress and thought that this will draw readers into reading the information and therefore wanting to buy the album.
As well as the standard promotional method of the album advert being a poster I have also shown another method of how the advert will promote the album. The advert would be displayed on a bus stop where there would be lots of people everyday looking at it. This therefore would make people aware of the album and therefore would increase the sales. I decided to locate the advert on the bus stop as many teenagers often use public transport and therefore would be around bus stops. this suggests how the bus stop is the most suitable location to display the advert, as it would be shown to the target audience as well as a large number of other people.

Evaluation Question 3

Transcript:
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Through the production stages of creating my music video gathering feedback from my audience was a key aspect to allowing me to create a successful and professional music video that appealed to an audience. It allowed me to see where I needed to improve through collecting positive and negative feedback allowing me to achieve the highest grade possible. Not only this through collecting feedback it allowed me to see what the audience liked about the video and the best bits of it as well as seeing if it suits the target audience.
The primary target audience to my video are mainly teenage girls around the ages of 13-25. Pop music is usually mainly targeted to a young female audience therefore I had to ensure that in my video I clearly highlighted the conventions of a pop music video such as representing them in a very feminine and pretty manger. In addition to this due to Ellie Goulding being a young pop artist who targets music at teenage girls, this age category seemed appropriate. A prime example of targeting to this specific audience in the video is through the styling and makeup of the artist. She is often presented in front of the camera wearing girly clothing such as dresses and skirts, and shows a range of makeup styles that the typical audience would see. I have also considered a male audience of around the ages 17-25 as the secondary audience, due to the fact that the song is very feminine and therefore the male audience would be interested in the looks of the female artist. However I believe that males may not be as interested in the video as the female audience, highlighting the reason for males being the secondary audience.
In terms of the typical viewers, due to the target audience being young they would not have yet experience the working life and therefore this makes it difficult to fit them into a specific social class. However the families of the people watching it could range but I believe that the older audience would be in the C2 and C1 social classes with skilled manual and managerial positions. Due to the song being the pop genre, this making the artist very likable and the video very popular. Considering this it is clear to see that the psychographics of the video would be majority main stream wanting to keep up to date with the latest music and videos.
I made sure that throughout the production stages I collected as much feedback as I could and often throughout the development of my video would ask people to watch my video and ask them what they thought of it. I also asked if there was anything that they would change to the video to keep it professional and to the highest standard.
When the music video was complete I had to make sure that the first thing I done was got feedback from the video from a mass audience. Without doing this I would have had no idea if the video was successful and met the primary purpose and audience. To do this I used the website survey monkey and posted the web link onto my blog to get people to complete this. Posting this onto my blog meant that people would watch my video and then instantly complete the survey. I included 7 different questions and made sure that the questions I gave were the most important factors that I wanted feedback on. Using this way of gaining feedback also allowed me to gain positive criticism as it can be hard to get this from the audience by asking them face to face. I was able to add a question to ask if there would be any changes made to the video where I included a text box for the audience to type into. I was able to achieve this feedback from the audience and due to the responses I got back being anonymous this helped me to gain as much feedback as I possibly could. The responses I got were not only just from the typical audience of the video making the feedback I got valid. I was also able to gain verbal feedback by often asking small questions to other pupils and the teachers, often for small changes that could be made. This way of gaining feedback would be classed as informal feedback and was only used when deciding on small minor changes which could be made.
The feedback which I collect was used effectively and I looked closely at the responses which was given on survey monkey. However a small amount of the feedback collect was ineffective as the amount of criticism and improvements was given was small leaving me with just the effective parts. One of the questions which I asked the audience was “are there a variety of shots, locations and costumes within the video? If not does this need improving?” For this question the responses given were all positive saying that there was no changes to be made. After collecting all the feedback various changes were made to the video, such as shots, speed of shots and editing of the lip syncing. Gaining audience feedback was definitely helpful and it helped me to ensure that my video was high standard and professional looking.

Production Diary - 23/03/15

Now that I have completed both the main task and the auxiliary tasks, I am now going to continue writing my evaluation questions. Although I drafted these before I had completed my two tasks I now need to go back and add to these evaluation question and find a suitable way to present these. When presenting my evaluation I am going to ensure that I use a range of different methods for example videos, prezi and magazines. By showing these in a range of different methods highlights my interest in media technologies and will make my work more interesting to people reading it.

Production Log - 20/3/15

Today I completed my final Digipak for my album. I decided to keep this very similar to my advert and music video to ensure that the audience know that they all link together and all promoting the same album. The front cover of the Digipak is kept simple, drawing the readers in through the boldness of the name of the album, and the mid shot of the artist. I believe the shot on the front of the Digipak is highly suitable and highlights the type of artist that Beth is. Moving onto the inside of the Digipak I kept the whole thing to studio pictures, but had the artist looking more directly into the camera. As well as this I included a note from the artist and her hand written name, once again making the audience more likely to want to buy the album. Finally on the back cover I included the management details and the barcode as well as the track names as this was the most suitable place to have all of this information. The white dress she is wearing is featured in the music video therefore making the audience notice what the promotion is for.

Audience Feedback Survey

I have made a survey to collect my audience feedback using the website www.surveymonkey.com. I believe this is the best way of me collecting feedback as it would be anonomous and therefore the audience would give me honest feedback. In addition it is not restcited to the amount of results I can collect. Below is the link for the survey:

Transcript:
I have continued working on the drafting stages of both the Digipak and the album advert both at home and in school. Whilst at home I have continued to look at existing products to gain ideas for my own work. Due to using the software InDesign to make my Digipak and album advert I am only able to complete this at school and in lesson time as I do not have this software at home. As a result of this I have been staying after school to work on all three of my products to give me more time to product the highest quality work. I am to continue working the way I am at the moment drafting my products and trying different things to see what works most effectively to create something unique and different to existing digipaks and album adverts.

Production Log - 26/01/15

I have continued to work on my music video ready for the final draft, however I have completed a photoshoot for the images for the digipak and the advert. I complete a photoshoot with my model in the studio to gain a large number of images which I could potentially use for my two auxilary tasks. For this photoshoot I made sure the settings were accurate and the lighting was set up correctly. Firstly I used continuous lighting which meant that it would not flash when the picture was taken. This was suitable to me as it meant that it would give me a much warmer glow and a much better finish against the black background to the image rather than a more bright picture. I also used a soft box which is a diffuser that makes it a lot softer and gentle than the white. If I was to use a flash for the images it would mean that I would have reflections which would mean it did not give more tone to the skin and more interesting lights. I also changed the camera settings to make them appropriate to the photography. I set the shutter speed to 15, F stop to 5.6, ISO at 200 and used a light meter to check how far the light was going. Below shows the set up to the photoshoot which I used:

Contact Sheet

This is my contact sheet of all the images which I took when I completed my photo-shoot. To make this contact sheet  I used the software Photoshop and then saved the files as JPEGs and then added them all to a PowerPoint. After doing this I saved the PowerPoint and uploaded it using the website slide share.
As you can see from this when I completed my photo-shoot I knew the kind of shots which I wanted to achieve and therefore took enough to ensure that I had a large choice to choose from but not loads that I had too many. In addition to this looking at the contact sheet the range of shots taken is evident where I took the pictures from many angles and positions, as well as some more close up than others. Finally when taking pictures I used two different costumes as I was most likely to use the images of Beth wearing the white dress however I wanted to make sure that I had a back up incase these were not suitable.

Production Diary - 23/01/15

Transcript:
I have been working on the drafting stages of my music video and constantly been making small changes to make the video look better. I have kept track of the improvements which I have been making through exporting my videos and uploading them to YouTube and keeping track of the draft number that the video is. I believe that by doing this when my video is complete it will help me to see the progress I have made and how the video has been edited. I aim to continue drafting to achieve the highest quality video. Some of the changes which I have made to the video is the speed of the shot changes. I have made the cuts quicker to fit to the pace of the music, and to ensure that it does not look boring. I also added zooms to the shots to make them more interesting and to keep the video entertaining the audience and not become boring.

Music Video - Draft 3

I have continued to work on my music video since my last draft. From the second draft to this draft I have made a range of changes. I have included quicker cuts between shots meaning that all the shots fit the fast pace of the song. In addition to this I have changed some of my shots. This is because they looked quite boring and my model wasn't really doing much. Therefore I replaced these shots with different ones making it look a lot more fun and interesting. In addition instead of just having my shots in the centre of the screen I added zooms where the shots would zoom in and out. This made it look a lot more interesting from my model being positioned just in the centre of the screen. Where I haven't added these zooms I have positioned the model to the side of the screen meaning she isnt directly in the centre. Not only this but I have improved the lip syncing to ensure that it is exactly in time.

Music video - second draft

Here is my second draft of my music video. From my first draft to this draft I have gained more footage from filming again in the studio. This measn that I no longer have any black spaces in my video and now have a much wider range of footage. However I still want to edit this video more in order to achieve the final look that I want. To improve my video I want to have much quicker cuts of shots towards the end of the video linking to the fast pace song. In addition to this I want to include more extreme close up shots of the artist. Throughout the video I have been referencing the sparklers which links to the message of the song implying the progress of the artist and highlighting the start of a new beginning. From now until I go onto to my next draft I am going to continue editing as the lip syncing is not exactly in time. However I have noticed that when exporting this draft of the video, the lip syncing is not exact whereas when I was editing in Premiere the lip syncing was a lot more in sync. In this video I have still not colour edited the video as I am leaving this until I have completed everything such as all the lip syncing being in time and all the correct shots which I want.

Draft 1

Here I have shown my first draft of my music video. In this video there is no colour correction done to the video and the shots which I have included may be changed. There is also some black spaces within the video. This is where I have not yet finished filming and not decided which shots I am going to have in these spaces. By putting the footage which I have so far together it has shown me how much space I have left and what else I need to include. From doing this I have planned to shoot again with my model to get some more studio filming which I can add into the black spaces. From now till my next draft I am to improve what I have done in terms of the shots and will add in any of the extra footage I have to improve what I have done. I will not work on any colour correction until all the footage is in the video in the correct places and the lip syncing is exactly in time as this is my main priority.
