Album Advert - Draft 2

I have continued to work on the album advert. From my first draft I have added an image to the advert and therefore had to arrange the positioning of the text on the page so it fits around the image. I believe that the image which I have used on the album advert clearly highlights the artist she is showing that she is the typical pop artist. In addition to this I believe by her looking directly at the camera shows that she is giving direct contact to her audience and fans. This is not the final version of the ablum advert and I am going continue working on these. The improvements which I plan on making to the advert is the background. When looking at this advert the white background and blank space on the advert does not look to appealing, therefore I am going to consider changing the background to a colour or maybe change the image to a studio shot with a black background. If I do change the image to a studio shot which I will take in the blackbox room this will mean that the image will take up the majority of the page. I would also change the font colour such as to white to make it stand out against the background colour of black.

Album advert - draft 1

Below I have shown the layout to the album advert which I am creating. I have shown all the aspects which are most important for the audience to know as well as the name of the album and the artist name. However I have undecided the picture which I wish to use on the album advert and therefore I am going to arrange with my model to take some more pictures in the studio.

Production Diary - 18/12/15

This week I have worked on the drafting of the album advert. I have taken the rough sketch and turnt this into an InDesign version, where I have decided on fonts and colours. However as I have not yet completed a photo-shoot I will use an image which I already have of Beth, however this will be changed as soon as I complete the photo-shoot.

Album advert - rough sketch

Here shows a rough sketch of how I want my album advert to look. As you can see from this there is a clear bold title at the top highlighting the name of the album and then under this it states who the album us by as well as the new song which the album features. Under this I have left a space for an image. At the moment I am currently unsure on the image I want to use. Finally at the bottom of the page I have the ratings and how the album is available. I plan to continue drafting the album this week..

Production Diary - 04/12/2014

Today I filmed more footage in the black box room. Filming in this room has enabled me to achieve a studio looking scene. I used 3 lights and positioned one behind my model and two either side of her. Doing this made my model stand out against the black background. For this shoot I wanted beth to stand out, therefore she was dressed in a royal blue skater dress with pink lips and eye shadow. I didn't want to take the focus of her dress and the lighting therefore I kept the make-up stuttle but sticking to the pop genre music theme.

I have continued to add the footage which I have already filmed into premiere and been working on correctly the lip syncing so it is exactly the same as the song. Below I have shown a print screen on my work in premiere.

Raw Footage - London

Above I have created a video which shows my raw footage which I filmed in London. I have shown a variety of shots that I filmed whils on location was filmed have also shown the footage which had errors that I made where I had to go back and reshoot this footage. In this raw footage there was a lot of background noise therefore I added a Ellie Goulding song in the background. From watching my raw footage it gives me and the people watching a wide understanding of the location where I filmed. When i had finished filming and completed my music video I will be able to re-watch this video which I have created and it will enable me to see how i have progressed throughout the year.

Production Log - 20/11/14

I have continued to edit my footage for my music video in premiere. As well as this I have created a short video where i have shown all my raw footage that i filmed in London. Within this video I showed a variety of shots that was filmed including the footage which will not neccassarily be included in my music video. I have also shown the footage which had errors that I made. With this footage I went back and filmed again and improved showing the progression which I had made. However in this raw footage there was a lot of background noise therefore i removed the sound from the footage and added a Ellie Goulding song in the background. From watching my raw footage it gives a wide understanding of the location where I filmed and when I have finished making my music video I will be able to watch this raw footage back and see how I was able to develop the footage in order to make it look a lot higher standard in a music video, meaning the video would be more enjoyable for the audience to watch.

Storyboards

Here I have shown 5 of my story boards out of the 12 which I use for my music video. For each section I have drawn a brief image of what the scene clip will look like, the lyrics and the time of the lyrics as well as any additional information such as where the scene will be taking place. I have also written what shot the clip will be in so when filming I do not have to think about how I will film that specific section I would already know.

Production Log - 20/10/15

Over the past week I have continued working on the different tasks and posting these onto my blog. I have completed a task called editing software which has helped me for when I get onto the development of my tasks. I was able to research these and find out how I could use them when I come to making my three tasks. I presented this in a PowerPoint meaning it is easy to understand and I can refer back to this in the future if I need to.

Narrative Structure of my music video

Production Diary - 9/10/14

I have continued working on my planning sections of the coursework. I have worked a lot on this at home to try and get it complete as soon as possible so that I can focus on editing my music video. I have completed the equipment list which highlights all the eqipment which I neededed in order to film my music video. Whilst on location filming my video I took some pictures of the different locations. I have shared some images on my blog of the locations however I still have more to show. In additon to this I have written abou the essentials which I need for my music video including costumes and props. The most recent thing which I have worked on is the media language. Although Ihave not yet edited my video together completing this task has allowed me to think about my video to ensure that I make a successful video.

Location Images - Camden

Camden:

Below are some images from google which are exactly where I filmed some of my music video. I filmed in two different locations in Camden however in my music video I think I will only use the footage from the graffiti wall.

Production diary - 3/10/14

I have begun to edit my video. I have downloaded my song for the music video and put it into premiere. I have also started to add my footage in to the places where it goes. As I am working on my video in lesson now as I do not have the software at home I have been working on my planning at home. This have included the production documents such as equipment list, contact with the artist and health and safety. I will also meet with my artist to complete a model and actor release form.

Video's that I admire

Ellie Goulding - Burn

The first video which I admire is Ellie Goulding's song Burn. As I am using an Ellie Goulding song I watched her videos and when watching this one it was noticeable to how much the audience get engaged into the song. It is a very catchy song which is reinforced through the beat of the song and how Ellie presents herself in the video. The dancing keeps the audience engaged as well as the lyrics having a narrative which allows the audience to understand the video. In addition to this there is a range of shots used which allow the audience to not get bored as well as making the audience wonder what will happen next.  The locations in the video have been used well and I think it is good that it doesn't change too often as the audience can see what is happening. When watching I also noticed the use of the lighting on certain objects as well as using shadows makes the video look fun and interesting. I believe that from this video I could use some of the ideas that she had an include them in my video.

Rudimental - Waiting All Night

I picked this video as the final one to analyse as I think this is a very real video that I admire. When the video begins it allows the audience to see that something is about to happen to the person which builds up tension. As the video begins the camera is being held by hand making it seem very real and not set up. When he is in hospital it seems very real through the narrative of the song it also allows the audience to think about their life and appreciate what thy have. This is one of my favourite things that I like about this video as it allows the audience to get involved and think about their own lives.

Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)

The final video which I admire is Rihanna - Only Girl. I like this video as I think it uses a good range of colours for example the reds and pink which all go well together. This is followed throughout the video which makes it consistent and appealing to watch. This also links to the name of the song as it is called Only Girl and the colour scheme highlights the girly theme. AT the start of the video the sound of the wind makes the video realistic and gives the audience an idea of what the video will be like. This is also displayed through her hair and dress blowing in the wind. I also like the camera shots which are using in the video which keep the audience engaged and emphasise the songs energy. These range of shots also allow the audience to see the different locations she is in which makes the video interesting to watch. Finally at the end of the video there is a shot of her jumping with fireworks. This makes the video very lively to watch and as it links well to the video it means that users enjoy the video more.

Research into Music Festivals

MUSIC FESTIVALS

READING - The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds. The events take place on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival is held at Little John's Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading.. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of an historic house. Campsites are available at both sites and weekend tickets include camping. Day tickets are also sold.
The Reading Festival, the original and senior of the two, is the world's oldest popular music festival still in existence. It has had various musical phases over the years, as detailed below. In the twin-site era, rock, alternative, indie, punk and metal have tended to dominate.
The festivals are run by Festival Republic, which was divested from Mean Fiddler Music Group. For promotional purposes during 1998-2007 they were known as the Carling Weekend: Reading and the Carling Weekend: Leeds.

V-FESTIVAL - The V Festival is an annual music festival held in England during August. The event is held at two parks simultaneously which share the same bill; artists perform at one location on Saturday and then swap on Sunday. The sites are located at Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in South Staffordshire. Although predominantly a rock music festival, a wide range of musical genres are accepted; in recent years pop acts have become more common.
The "V" represents the Virgin Group, with the event being sponsored by Virgin Media. It was previously televised by Channel 4, predominantly on their sister channel 4 Music, although for the 2014 edition of the festival it was announced that television broadcast rights would be returned to MTV.

WIRELESS - The wireless festival is a music festival in England that takes place every year. It is owned and managed by Live Nation. From its inception in 2005 until 2008, the festival was sponsored by telecommunications company O2, and was called the O2 Wireless Festival. From 2009 to 2012, the main sponsor was Barclaycard and the festival renamed to Barclaycard Wireless Festival. For 2013, the sponsor changed to Yahoo!, and was renamed to Yahoo! Wireless. The 2014 Wireless Festival was held in Finsbury Park in North London for the first time, as well as Perry Park in Birmingham.

CREAMFIELDS - Creamfields is a large British dance music festival featuring DJs and live acts. It is held annually on the August Bank Holiday weekend in Daresbury, England. The festival began as an offshoot from Liverpool's Cream nightclub Other Creamfields festivals have been held in many countries and places.  Creamfields Lisbon  was held for the first time in May 2007. Creamfields Australia has been held annually since 2010 to present.

GLASTONBURY - Glastonbury Festival is a five-day music festival that takes place near Pilton, Somerset. The festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts. It is organised by Michael Eavis on his own land in Pilton. Leading pop and rock artists have headlined, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. Films and albums recorded at Glastonbury have been released, and the festival receives extensive television and newspaper coverage. Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the world, and is now attended by around 175,000 people. The majority of staff are volunteers, helping the festival to raise millions of pounds for good causes.

Production Diary - 17/09/14

I have completed the work which i set myself for homework which was the analysis of a previous A2 work where I analysed Clare's and Amy's work. I also worked on analysing artist magazine advertisment where I analysed Ellie Goulding and Jessie J. I have now began to work on the class work which I set myself and have to completed research equipment. I will also work on influences of music style and videos which I admire.

Research Equipment

For research of equipment i have used prezi to display my work. Within the prezi I have research 5 different peieces of equipment; camera, tripod and the editing softwares which I will be using throughout the production of my music video. Using this prezi has allowed my work to be presented neatly and organised making it clear to see exactly what peices of equipment I am talking about.

Analysis of Existing A2 work.

I have decided to analyse Amy Wichelow's and Clare Hannington's music videos from last year. I have decided to analyse their work as it looks highly professional and they gained top marks. By analysing their work it will mean that I gain a wider understanding of how to create a music video. It also means I can encorporate some of the ideas and the ways they have edited their videos into my video. After analysing this I will be able to see what they have done well and possible improvements to help with my production and development of my video.

Firstly I have analysed Amy's music video which was Spectrum by Florence and the Machine. This is a great example of a pop song which is very upbeat like what my music video will be. Amy has used one main artist through out the song and used a range of locations and different costumes to fit with these locations. The clothing which she is wearing meets the type of song such as the dress clearly highlighting the pop genre. Likewise with the  I also like the use of lighting in her video as it gives it a very professional look. Similarly the way the music video has been edited means that it changes exactly on the beat like a typical pop song. The video is made very fun using a range of shots and angles meaning the audience are constantly drawn into the video. As the video begins it starts with an out of focused cmid shot of the artist with a sparkler and then changes into a close up of the artist. Straight away this means that the audience can see exactly who the artist is. I have also noticed in the video how well the lip syncing has been done and there was no noticable errors.

The next video which I analysed was Clares. Although her video is very different to the way the mine will be produced I believe that this is a good video to analyse and would help me with ideas for editing my video. The song is very slow and she has made the video fit to this sytle of music which i believe works very well. Within the song there are three people who have been used. As the video begins there is a close up which gradually fades into the next scene. I think it works well how she is telling a story and each stage is shown in a close up. In the video I especcially like shot with the makeup brush. The audience are always focused on the video meaning that the audience are not bored with the video. The video allows the audience to connect with the video through the facial expressions and body language of the artist. In the video no mining has been used which I believe works well with the type of video and allows the audience to keep engaged in what the artists are doing.

Production Diary - 15/9/14

During the past week I have continue to set myself weeking class work and homework. In class I have worked on research into companies, research into genre and research into the artist. I have also completed three tasks for homework where I researced what a digipak was and analysed two digipaks. I used a range of powerpoints and prezi's to display my work. I have set myself another set of homework for this week to complete an analysis of a previous A2 students work, and analyse a band or artists magazine ad.

What is a Digipak?

A digipak is an orginal style of CD or DVD packaging. Digipacks are usually used for CD singles or CD albums containing one more CD. Digipaks are usually made from paperboard or ard outer binding with a plastic try in order to hold the CD inside. Due to the material in which they are made from it means that they are not as resistant to wear and tear and therefore would show the signs of wear a lot quicker.

The first digipak was created by Mead Westvaco which is a global packaging company and since then the digi-pak is their tradmark item. During the early 2000s the use of digipaks increased and was used by a number of artists and record labels meaning that they are being made by many more manufacturers and they are seen with almost very album and in many music shops such as HMV.

A digi-pak allows the audience to see what the CD is and would help the audience to buy the CD without having to actally listen to it. The front cover usually displays an image of the artist along with a small amount of text including the artist name and a couple of reviews. The front of the digi-pak including the image, fonts and style usually would depend of the artist and the genre of music. Inside the digi pak will allow the CD to be held in place and would often include more text such as the copyright and trademark information. This section usually contains an image of the artist across the digi-pak. Finally on the back of the digi-pak there will be a list of the songs included in the album as well as another image or background colour. On the digi-pak logos would also be displayed allowing the audiene to know who the album is by. A prime example of this would be Ellie Goulding's digipak where the image and styles clearly link to the genre of music

Production Log - 11/9/14

In my media lessons I have continued working on my research and planning. This week I have focused more on the research side and set myself homework to complete 3 planning tasks. For my research work I began working on the research into existing labels where I researched many different music labels. Doing this gave me a much wider understanding of the different record labels. Secondly I worked on the research into an Artist. For my artist research I decided to use the artist who I am using for my music video who is Ellie Goulding. Researching my artist means now I know a lot more about her such as the basic facts to how she became famous and her different albums. Finally I created a prezi where I displayed the work I had done on the pop genre. I was able to research the different aspects of the pop genre in order to find out a lot more information. I also researched the social norms and cultures of pop music as well as giving background on the pop genre.

Production Log - 5/9/14

Throughout the summer i have been working on filming my music video. I decided to use Beth as my model and picked the outfits that she would wear very carefully so that it clearly linked to the pop song. The first location where I filmed was camden. Here i was able to find a graffiti wall and I had Beth infront of this. In camden I also filmed at the canal and on a bridge which over looked the canal. Due to camden being a bright location I had Beth wearing a bright yellow playsuit. I then done some filming inside on the sofa which looked very effect with the red pillows. Finally I filmed in London where I was able to go to the top of city hall to over look London and tower bridge. Here beth was wearing a girly dress which was sparkly and had her hair curly which looked effective with the location. I still have some filming to do which I will complete in the next month. I have also been working on my research and planning for my music video.

Friday 1 August 2014

Filming/Editing Schedule

I aim to complete the majority of the filming during the summer period as most of my shots wil be outside and therefore I want to ensure I have the best possible weather to achieve this. Therefore I will aim to stick to this schedule:

Scene One: Cyprus
Filming – 12th August 2014, 5:30am
Editing – 8th September 2014. Editing will continue after this until the first draft of the entire video is complete.
Details: On this day, I would like to have achieved a shot of the sun rise. I believe that by filming this whilst on holiday I would achieve the best possible sunrise shot, rather than completing this in London where I could not garentee the sun. I will use a tripod when shooting this shot as The camera will have to be kept still for a long period of time whilst the sun rises and I do not want the footage to be shaky.

Scene Two: Camden
Filming – 2nd August 2014, All day
Editing - 15th July. Editing will continue after this until the first draft of the entire video is complete.
Details: The shots which I acheive in camdem will give me the bright summery theme which I am trying to achieve with the video. I will film in a range of locations across Camden, and hope to find a brightly coloured wall such as a grafifi wall. I will aim to achieve a lot of footage from different angles in order to make sure I have enough footage aswell as ensuring that when the video is complete it does not looking boring.

Scene Three: London
Filming – 29th August 2014
Editing - 8th September 2014. Editing will continue after this until the second and final drafts of the entire video is complete.
Details: Once I had filmed in this final location it may be that I do not have enough footage. Therefore Iwill plan to shoot in the studio once I have completed the majority of editing of footage I already have.

Scene Four: Studio
Filming – 4th Decemeber 2014
Editing - 5th December 2014. Editing will continue after this until the second and final drafts of the entire video is complete.
Details: My final location where I filmed was in the studio (black box room). In this location I wanted to achieve a range of shots of my artist including both mid and close up shots. In addition to this I will ensure that I shot from a range of different angles. Whilst in the studio I want to achieve shots of my artist performing as this seems most relevant to the studio location.

Codes and conventions of a music video

History of music video

In this task I have been able to research the history of a music video. By doing this it has given me a much wider understanding of music videos and how much videos were first created. I have created a prezi shown below which highlights the main parts of the history to music videos.

Production Log - 9/07/14

Over the past few days I have been thinking more about my music video and gaining ideas for my moodboard. I collect a range of different images which are related to my target audience. For my moodboard I made a video and used the song which I will be using when my make my video. I have also got the lyrics from the song and posted it onto my blog which I will analysis in the following week.

Ellie Goulding "Goodness Gracious" Lyrics

Moodboard

Here is a video for my moodboard. I have used the chosen song for my music video which is Goodness Gracious by Ellie Goulding and I have included all the images which are related to my target audience.

Production Log - 02/07/14

To begin this coursework I have been thinking of possible songs which I could use for my media music video. For my initial ideas planning task I have made a powerpoint where I have spoken about the possible songs which I could use. Within this powerpoint I have discussed what I like about each of the song choices and what im not too sure about. Similarly by doing this it has made me more aware of the song I would like to do for my final idea. I have decided to use the song Ellie Goulding - Goodness Gracious for my final song choice however for filming I will be getting some of my ideas from the song Big when I was little.
